ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Maggie promises to make academic excellence her top priority. She is a school based speech language pathologist with 24 years in the classroom. Maggie has specialized training in literacy, behavior modification, specialized interventions, and Autism. Maggie understands learning and behavior challenges and she brings her expertise to the Board. Maggie advocates to adopt evidenced based teaching strategies and practices that allow teachers to do their jobs in the classroom.

CAREER READINESS

Maggie advocates for career exploration throughout a student's school years. For young children it is exploring careers through literature, field trips, and guest speakers. As students mature, they deserve access to interest surveys, guidance with career fields, and opportunities to meet and discuss careers with professionals. Maggie supports shadowing experiences, internships and alumni networking. Maggie supports coaching and modeling work experiences for students with needs to develop employability skills.

As an educator, Maggie Cook has worked with students transitioning into the workforce for over 24 years and she understands the support needed to adopt these practices.

SAFETY

Maggie Cook is dedicated to adopting safe school practices to protect our children. She identifies risks in school buildings and wants to adopt proactive approaches for school safety. Maggie has served on the Safety Committee every year and she has worked with the City of Mentor to negotiate a contract to employ School Resource Officers in every building. She has advocated to budget for these positions. Within the committee, Maggie used a safety audit to guide purchases to make the buildings safer. Maggie understands that prevention is the key to safety and she advocates for mental health professionals in every building and common sense code of conduct practices.
